How to Use Maia by Make After the October Upgrade

Maia is Make's AI co-worker inside the Scenario Builder, and since its October 20, 2026 upgrade it can plan a whole automation before building it, remember how you work across chats, and fix failed runs from their own logs. If you are evaluating Make this week, or you already pay for it and still build scenarios by hand, these three features change how much of the work you type versus approve. Here is how to use each one.

What changed in Maia's October 2026 update?

Make shipped the upgrade on October 20, 2026 (announcement) and emailed its user base about it this week. The headline changes: a Plan mode that maps the full build before anything changes, a Memory that keeps your preferences between chats, and a Resolve error button that turns a failed run's diagnostics into a proposed fix. It also added image input and a copy-response button. As of November 2026, Maia is in public beta on all paid Make plans, and free plans get a 30-day trial that starts at signup (Make help center). Not on Make yet? There is partner pricing on our Make listing.

How do you use Plan mode?

Maia now works in two modes. Build is the default: it asks one question at a time and builds each step after you approve it. Plan asks all of its questions up front, shows you the complete approach, and only starts building once you approve the plan. Plan mode also checks your connections, each app's capabilities and your plan-tier access before it builds, which catches the classic failure where a scenario dies halfway through because a connection was never authorized.

Both modes work on existing scenarios too: point Maia at one and it can suggest improvements, which you review before anything changes. A practical rule: use Build for quick two or three module utilities, and Plan for anything that touches production data or runs on a schedule, where a half-built scenario is worse than no scenario.

How does Maia's memory work?

Memory keeps your preferences across chats so you stop re-explaining yourself. It can hold which apps and accounts to use or avoid, how detailed you want responses, and which language to answer in. You can save up to 50 memories of up to 200 characters each, and add, edit, delete, clear or turn them off at any time. Memories are saved per user, per team, and teammates never see yours.

Worth saving first: your primary CRM connection by name, the account to use when an app has several, and an instruction to keep responses short. Those three remove most of the repeated setup questions.

How do you fix a failed run with Maia?

Open the scenario's history and pick the failed run. Maia reads the run data to see what each module processed, where the flow broke, and whether the same error has happened before. Click Resolve error and it turns that diagnosis into a working fix that revises the scenario. You review the change before saving it, and you should actually read it: Maia gets you a strong fix fast, but you own correctness, especially on scenarios that write to a CRM or send email. The new copy-response button exports Maia's diagnosis as Markdown, handy for pasting into Slack or a runbook.

Can Maia build from a screenshot?

Yes. Attach Image accepts up to three images per session in PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 1.5 MB each. Maia reads each image once and Make does not store it. A whiteboard photo or a screenshot of another tool's workflow is enough for a first draft of the scenario, which beats describing twelve modules in prose.

What does Maia cost?

There is no separate Maia price as of November 2026. It is included in public beta on every paid Make plan, and free accounts get the 30-day trial. The real cost question is operations usage: a scenario Maia builds consumes the same operations as one you build by hand, so plan sizing does not change.

One honest caveat. Maia gets you a strong first draft fast, not a finished system. Scenarios that move revenue data still need the same review, error handling and ownership as hand-built ones. If your automations are starting to look like infrastructure, that is a design problem before it is a tooling problem: our take on when to build custom connectors versus buy covers the adjacent decision, and our MCP connector builds cover the cases Make modules do not reach.

Frequently asked questions

Is Maia available on Make's free plan?

Partially. Maia is in public beta on all paid plans, and free plans get a 30-day trial that starts when you sign up. After the trial, you need a paid plan to keep using it, as of November 2026.

Do teammates see my Maia memories?

No. Memories are saved per user, per team. Your teammates never see your memories, and you can edit, clear or turn them off at any time.

Can Maia edit existing scenarios or only build new ones?

Both. Plan and Build modes work on existing scenarios, and Maia can suggest improvements to one you already run. You review every suggested change before it is applied.

What images can I attach to a Maia chat?

Up to three per session, in PNG, JPEG or WebP, at up to 1.5 MB each. Maia reads an image once to build from it, and Make does not store the file.

If the automations you are sketching in Maia are the ones your pipeline will depend on, you may not want to be the one maintaining them. Our Workflow Operator designs, builds and runs agent-grade automations, on Make, HubSpot or custom.
