Klaviyo goes headless: 260+ MCP tools for every agent

Klaviyo is now headless. On September 9, 2026, at its K:BOS customer conference, Klaviyo announced that 260+ MCP tools and 490+ APIs are accessible directly from Claude, ChatGPT, or any AI system your team already runs. An agent can read your Klaviyo data, write to it, and put a campaign live without anyone opening the Klaviyo interface.

That one sentence changes how you should think about your marketing stack. The interface is no longer the product. The data and the actions are, and any agent with the right credential can use both.

What did Klaviyo actually announce?

Per the official press release, the headless launch is the headline in a larger K:BOS batch:

  • 260+ MCP tools and 490+ APIs now reachable from Claude, ChatGPT, custom agents, or tools like Cursor and Lovable. Klaviyo cites brands building live reporting dashboards outside Klaviyo and automating weekly performance reviews that post findings to Slack.
  • SQL inside the Klaviyo Data Platform (preview): ask a question in plain language through Composer or MCP, Klaviyo translates it to SQL, runs it against your data, and returns the answer with the query that produced it. It covers profiles, events, segments, lists, and catalogs today, with flows and custom objects coming.
  • Personalization replaces Marketing Analytics as a platform layer, with specialized models deciding who to reach, what to show, and when.
  • Composer upgrades: scheduled tasks, saved team skills, segment editing, and a mobile app preview. Klaviyo says more than 138,000 users rely on Composer.
  • Customer Agent goes global with 100+ languages, and voice is coming as a channel. Klaviyo says the agent has exchanged more than 1.3 million messages.

What Klaviyo did not publish matters too: no pricing for agent access, no rate limits, and no customer outcome data for the headless architecture. Every number above is Klaviyo counting its own surface area.

Why does headless matter for marketers?

Until now, the Klaviyo UI was the control layer. Send limits, approval steps, and permissions all lived in screens a human had to click through. When an agent reaches the platform through MCP or an API, those screens are not in the path. The only thing governing the agent is the scope on its credential.

That is the same shift we covered when OpenAI put agent swarms on marketing analytics: the work moves to software that arrives from outside the vendor that sold you the system. The upside is real. A weekly performance review that runs itself, a reporting dashboard your CEO can open without a Klaviyo seat, segments built by asking a question in plain English. The downside is equally real. An agent that writes a segment definition wrong does not get a confirmation dialog before the send goes to your whole list.

What should you set up before giving an agent write access?

Three controls, in order:

1. Scope the credential, not the prompt. Decide which objects an agent token can write. Read-only for analytics agents. Write access only for the specific objects a workflow needs. Never a full-scope key because it was faster to create.

2. Keep a human between the agent and the send button. Drafting campaigns, building segments, and querying data are safe to automate today. The final go-live on a large send should require a person until you have months of audit trail showing the agent gets it right.

3. Review the audit trail weekly. Decide now who reads what the agent did, because nobody will be watching it happen in real time. That is the entire point of headless.

Does this change anything outside Klaviyo?

Yes. Klaviyo is a B2C CRM, but the pattern is stack-wide. HubSpot exposes its platform to agents, OpenAI and Anthropic both ship agent frameworks that expect MCP endpoints, and vendors that stay walled gardens will get routed around. If your stack still assumes every action happens inside a vendor UI, you are one quarter behind the market this announcement describes.

This is exactly the wiring work we do. Whether you run Klaviyo, HubSpot, or a mixed stack, we stand up MCP connectors and build workflow agents against your own tools, with your team keeping the final say on every send.

Frequently asked questions

What is headless Klaviyo?

Headless means Klaviyo's data and actions are accessible without its user interface. As of September 9, 2026, 260+ MCP tools and 490+ APIs let Claude, ChatGPT, or any agent read Klaviyo data, write to it, and launch campaigns directly.

Can ChatGPT or Claude really send a Klaviyo campaign?

Yes, if you connect them through Klaviyo's MCP tools with a credential that has write access. Klaviyo states an agent can "read, write, and go live on its own." Whether it should is a permissions decision you control through credential scope.

What does Klaviyo's MCP access cost?

Klaviyo did not publish pricing, rate limits, or tier restrictions for agent access in the announcement. Check your plan before building on it.

What is SQL in the Klaviyo Data Platform?

A preview feature that turns a plain-language question into a SQL query against your own Klaviyo data and returns the answer alongside the query. It is available through Composer and MCP and currently covers profiles, events, segments, lists, and catalogs.

What should Klaviyo customers do first?

Audit credentials before connecting any agent. Scope tokens to the minimum objects a workflow needs, require human confirmation on sends, and assign an owner to review the agent audit trail weekly.
