Pipedrive Nova Is Free on Every Plan. Do You Still Need a Paid AI Notetaker?
Pipedrive Nova is a free AI meeting intelligence tool that is now included on every Pipedrive plan, for every user, at no extra cost. It became generally available on September 16, 2026. Nova briefs reps before calls, records and transcribes meetings on Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, then drafts the CRM updates afterward. If your team runs on Pipedrive and pays separately for a meeting recorder, this launch just put that line item on the table.
This is the same squeeze we covered when Zoom became a sales engagement vendor and when Salesforce shipped Hunter and Piper: platforms are absorbing point tools as free features. This time it is the AI notetaker category's turn.
What is Pipedrive Nova?
Nova is Pipedrive's built-in meeting intelligence layer. According to Pipedrive's announcement and its knowledge base, it works across the whole meeting lifecycle:
- Before the call: an AI briefing assembled from your deal records, contact history, calendar entries and connected Gmail messages.
- During the call: either a visible AI Notetaker bot that joins Zoom, Meet or Teams, or the Nova Companion desktop app for macOS and Windows, which captures system audio with no bot in the room and can even transcribe in-person meetings through your laptop microphone.
- After the call: a summary, follow-up actions, and suggested CRM updates such as deal stage, value and expected close date. Nothing is applied automatically, a rep reviews and approves every change.
It also handles participant consent, notifying attendees that a meeting will be transcribed before it starts.
Why does a free notetaker matter?
Because meeting recording has been a paid category. Sales teams commonly stack a CRM plus a $10 to $60 per seat per month recorder. When the CRM bundles recording, transcription and CRM-update drafting for free, the standalone tool has to justify itself on what it does beyond notes. That is exactly how this plays out every time a platform absorbs a category: the baseline becomes free, and the specialists retreat upmarket to coaching, analytics and cross-team intelligence.
Do you still need Fireflies, tl;dv or Gong?
It depends on what you were actually paying for. Here is the honest split:
| You use a recorder for | Nova covers it? | Keep a standalone tool? |
|---|---|---|
| Transcripts, summaries, action items logged to the CRM | Yes, free on all Pipedrive plans | No, if you are on Pipedrive |
| Searchable meeting library across teams and tools outside the CRM | Partially, Nova lives inside Pipedrive | Often yes |
| Sales coaching, scorecards, objection tracking, multi-meeting trends | No | Yes, this is where tl;dv and Gong earn their keep |
| Recording for recruiting, CS, product and other non-sales teams | No, Nova is sales-first | Yes, a cross-team tool like Fireflies.ai fits better |
If your recorder subscription only ever produced transcripts and summaries that ended up in Pipedrive anyway, Nova makes it redundant. If you rely on conversation intelligence, revenue analytics or company-wide meeting capture, the standalone tools still win, and the free plans below let you prove it before paying anything.
Fireflies.ai, free-forever plan AI notetaker for every team, not just sales. Transcription in 100+ languages, AskFred search across past meetings, recaps pushed to Slack and your CRM. Start Fireflies free |
tl;dv, free plan with unlimited recordings Meeting recorder built for revenue teams. Sales coaching scorecards, objection tracking and multi-meeting intelligence on top of notes. Try tl;dv free |
What should sales teams do this week?
On Pipedrive: turn Nova on (admins enable it under Settings, Manage users), run it alongside your current recorder for two weeks, and compare the CRM updates each one produces. Then decide with data. Not on Pipedrive: this launch is your pricing leverage, every notetaker vendor now has to defend its seat price against a free bundled alternative, and renewal conversations should reflect that.
If you want the whole meeting-to-revenue loop audited, our revenue intelligence hack covers exactly this stack decision, and the discount marketplace holds verified deals on the tools that survive it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pipedrive Nova really free?
Yes. Pipedrive states Nova is included in all plans at no additional cost for every user, with no setup required. It became generally available on September 16, 2026.
Does Pipedrive Nova record without a bot joining the call?
Yes. The Nova Companion desktop app for macOS and Windows captures system audio directly, so no visible bot joins the meeting. It also transcribes in-person conversations through your computer microphone.
Does Nova update the CRM automatically?
No. Nova suggests updates such as deal stage, value and close date, but a person reviews and approves every change before it is saved.
Should I cancel Fireflies or tl;dv if I use Pipedrive?
Run them side by side first. Cancel if you only used the tool for transcripts and summaries. Keep it if you depend on coaching, cross-meeting analytics or recording for teams outside sales, which Nova does not cover.
Which meeting tools does Nova work with?
The AI Notetaker bot joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. The Companion desktop app captures any VoIP tool running on your computer.
