Salesforce buys Braze for $5.66B, what happens now

Salesforce announced on October 20, 2026 that it will acquire Braze, the customer engagement platform behind DoorDash, HBO Max, and Burger King, for roughly $5.66 billion in enterprise value, or $47.50 per share in cash. That is about a 58% premium over where Braze closed the day before. The catch for the roughly 2,770 companies running on Braze: the deal is not expected to close until Salesforce's fiscal 2028, which starts February 1, 2027. That is more than a year of limbo, and what you do with it depends on which side of the deal you sit on.

What exactly did Salesforce announce?

The agreement is all cash at $47.50 per Class A share. Braze did $738.2 million in revenue in its fiscal year ended January 31, 2026, up 24%, so Salesforce is paying roughly 7.7 times trailing revenue. Closing requires Braze shareholder approval and regulatory sign-off, which explains the long runway. Braze CEO Bill Magnuson says the company will keep building and investing in its customer and partner community in the meantime.

This is not an isolated move. Salesforce announced its acquisition of Loops the week before, picked up Listen Labs at the start of October, and signed data partnerships with Hunter and others in between. The pattern is clear: Salesforce is buying its way into every layer of AI-driven marketing and engagement.

Why does Salesforce want Braze?

Marketing Cloud has long been strong at scheduled campaigns and weak at real-time, high-volume consumer events. Braze was built for exactly that: it processes billions of interactions a day and decides send time, channel, and message per user. Gartner's most recent Multichannel Marketing Hubs Magic Quadrant listed three Leaders: Adobe, Salesforce, and Braze. Two of the three now sit under one roof, which is as much about removing a challenger as adding a capability.

What happens to Braze customers now?

Today, nothing. Braze stays an independent public company until the deal closes, and no pricing, packaging, or roadmap changes have been announced. But the history here is worth knowing. ExactTarget became the foundation of Marketing Cloud. Krux and Datorama were folded in and renamed. Salesforce has not said which path Braze takes, and that silence is the risk: if your renewal lands in 2027, you will be negotiating with a vendor whose future owner has its own pricing model, its own AI agenda in Agentforce, and a strong incentive to pull you deeper into Customer 360.

Three practical moves while the deal is pending: get any multi-year pricing locked before close, ask your Braze team directly what integration commitments survive the acquisition, and inventory how much of your stack depends on Braze staying composable and CRM-neutral.

Should you move off Braze?

If you are an enterprise B2C brand with heavy mobile engagement, probably not yet. Braze is still excellent at what it does, and switching costs are real. Iterable, Customer.io, CleverTap, MoEngage, and OneSignal are the names to keep on a watchlist if the integration goes badly.

The calculation is different if you were evaluating Braze right now, or if you are a mid-market team paying enterprise prices for what is mostly email, SMS, and lifecycle automation. A platform entering a year-plus acquisition window is a hard thing to sign with confidence, and lighter tools cover most of those jobs for far less.

What should Marketing Cloud customers watch?

If you are on the Salesforce side, the question is which engagement tool survives as the default. Salesforce says Braze will connect to Marketing Cloud, Data 360, and Agentforce, but it has not published a combined roadmap. We saw this same playbook when HubSpot bought Warmly: the acquirer's announcement answers everything except the one question customers actually have. If your lifecycle program needs an audit before you commit to either stack, our lifecycle re-engagement build is the fastest way to pressure-test it, or talk to an expert and we will map it with you.

Frequently asked questions

Is Salesforce buying Braze?

Yes. Salesforce announced on October 20, 2026 that it signed a definitive agreement to acquire Braze for roughly $5.66 billion in enterprise value, paying $47.50 per Class A share in cash.

When will the Salesforce Braze deal close?

The deal is expected to close in Salesforce's fiscal year 2028, which begins February 1, 2027. It still needs Braze shareholder approval and regulatory approvals, so Braze operates as an independent company until then.

Will Braze pricing change after the acquisition?

Nothing has been announced. Salesforce has not published a combined roadmap and has not said whether Braze stays standalone, merges into Marketing Cloud, or changes packaging. History with ExactTarget, Krux, and Datorama suggests integration happens over time.

What are the best Braze alternatives?

For enterprise mobile-first engagement, teams typically evaluate Iterable, Customer.io, CleverTap, MoEngage, and OneSignal. For SMB and mid-market teams that mostly need email, SMS, and automation, Brevo, Omnisend, and ActiveCampaign cover most use cases at a fraction of the cost.

Why is Salesforce acquiring Braze?

Marketing Cloud has lacked strong real-time, high-volume consumer event processing. Braze processes billions of daily interactions for brands like DoorDash and Burger King, and it fills that gap while removing one of the strongest independent challengers from the market.
